According to reports in the Daily Star, Leeds United legend and pundit Danny Mills believes that Whites centre-back Pontus Jansson will remain at Elland Road this summer.

The Sweden international joined the Championship club on a season-long loan deal from Torino last summer and quickly established himself as one of the best defenders in the division after forming a strong partnership with fellow loanee Kyle Bartley at the heart of the defence.

In fact, the 26-year-old impressed so much that it was announced earlier this year that he would join the club on a permanent deal for £3.5m this summer, and at the time it was hoped that it could be in the Premier League with Garry Monk’s side flying high in the top six.

However, a poor run of form towards the end of the campaign meant they narrowly missed out on a place in the play-off positions, leading Jansson to be linked with a move to Southampton.

Mills doesn’t believe that Leeds supporters have much to worry about though despite the fact that Southampton could have money to spend if they sell captain Virgil van Dijk for a world-record fee this summer.

The 40-year-old told the Daily Star: “I think he [Jansson] will stay at Leeds.

“He’s had a good season but I don’t think anyone is going to come in and pay a fortune for him.

“He’s unproven at that level [the Premier League].

“With just one season in the Championship people will be wary.”

Before worrying about Jansson, Leeds also need to decide on the future of Monk, with the one-year rolling contract he signed last summer set to run out in the coming weeks.
